You may wonder what Dr Perricone has to do with eczema, but bear with me and I will tell you why. He is the No.1 Dermatologist in the US and understands the link between cellular inflammation and its various ways of affecting your body. He called one of his diets “The Facelift Diet” as it reverses the signs of ageing and wear and tear.
Dr Perricone first came to my attention 5 years ago. I wanted to detox from eating out over several months. My skin flared up so I was willing to try anything and everything when it came to diet and skincare. I searched online and discovered Dr Perricone’s 3 Day Facelift Diet and also 28 Day Programme.
He emphasised the importance of eating oily fish at least 4 times a day to reverse the effects of ageing and wrinkled skin. He mentioned salmon a lot. So I bought a whole salmon and ate it at least 3 times a day with salad to see what happened.
The diet worked. Due to the lower carb and frequent protein intake over the course of 3 days. I wanted to continue eating oily fish after the 3 Day Diet, but found salmon too expensive. It still is, so I chose mackerel instead as it is a more prolific and cheaper fish. You can steam it, roast it or even broil it in a stew.
Dr Perricone has also developed a skincare line called Perricone MD. It is mostly for mature people and also for those whose skin is almost normal, yet still needs tender loving care.
So What Does the 3 Day Facelift Do to Plump Your Skin?
Most of us know that oily fish is good for us. What we do not realise is how eating starchy carbs like potatoes and rice makes us take on a bloated appearance. I experienced this first hand after a mini flare up earlier this year in April.
Every time I woke up I noticed my eyelids would flake and my face looked puffy. I noticed I had been eating plenty of rice on a weekly basis, so decided to switch to eating plantain for carbs. I also started making blends containing cucumber and celery as well as drinking at least 2 litres of bottled water daily.
I also made soya milk and blended it with goji berries for extra beta carotene. My skin healed up in 1 1/2 months and I even started to glow!
So now I love eating fish and eat it at least 3 times a week to maintain supple skin. It has practically taken me almost 10 years to cure my love of chicken and switch over to fish! We Live to Learn!
A Simple Dish is Like This;
1 steamed mackerel with a 7 vegetable salad including
- 1 whole cucumber
- sliced carrots
- mung bean sprouts
- chopped baby spinach
- sliced tomatoes
- 1 medium avocado (optional)
- chopped onions
- and chard
I normally fill half my plate with fish and the other half with salad. Avocados are used as a dressing. I do not put any olive oil on my salad as there is natural oil in the fish.
Dr Perricone’s Diet also includes eating plenty of berries for example, blueberries and raspberries. Very nice with kefir for break fast! You can find lots of recipes on his website.
I have not tried his skincare range yet, but am willing to try some for my hands and feet. WATCH THIS SPACE!
Dr Perricone looks very young himself even though he must be in his 50s. He must definitely use some of the range daily to keep his looks fresh.
The good thing about skin is that it repairs while we sleep and there is a fresh turnover of skin every 28 days. If we eat right consistently over a period of 3 months to 1 year, we can significantly reduce such signs of ageing as fine wrinkles, blotchy and dehydrated skin. Even puffy eyes and hair thinning.
I did include at least 2 litres of vegetable juice every day and even lost 7lbs….I now understand the process to go through if the numbers on the scale start to creep too far up.
Do you find it easy to maintain your weight once you have lost several pounds? Old habits die hard and it is so easy to revert to our old patterns of eating due to the comfortable feeling we get when we are with friends and loved ones.
I actually cut off a few friends who insisted on eating out several times a week, every week. My skin felt better and I had more peace. It took a while for new, wiser friends to fill the gap, but it was worth it and I have more valuable friendships now.
When you look good in your own skin, you feel good and others will notice the changes and will ask you what you did to accomplish this ‘new glowing you’. So I would advise you not just to invest in skin creams and make up, but instead invest in skin care routines that include age-defying foods, juices and lifestyle.
Believe you me, after 1 year of healthy eating, you will come back to thank me for it! And I will thank God… for making a difference in your life, for the better. This is what life is all about. Touching lives in a positive manner that ripples out to the friends they know. We are the definition of the kind of friends we hang out with and if we hang out with unhealthy friends, we become the same way.
