If you have rashes, brain fog or you are bloated and tired – candida may be the culprit.
So what is Candida? It is a fungus that normally lives in your gut and can multiply out of control when the balance of microbes in your intestines is upset. For example, these days people love plenty of sugar and sugary foods. This can cause candida overgrowth
When this happens, your ability to digest foods is weakened. So is your immune system.
All is not lost however, as MSM (Methyl Sulphonyl Methane – I know lovely tongue twister isn’t it? ) can bring candida, the skin rash villain, back to its normal levels in the gut.
MSM is a sulphur supplement, sulphur being one of the major minerals that our body needs. It is stored in every cell in a body and if you are deficient in it you may find that you suffer from the following:
- slow wound healing
- scar tissue
- brittle nails
- brittle hair
- digestive problems
- arthritis
- acne
- rashes
- depression
- memory loss
Sulphur is the eighth most abundant substance in the body by weight and it is very important for us to absorb it from our food.
Unfortunately, most of our food is lacking in this substance due to depleted soil, therefore we have to supplement it with MSM which is totally natural.
Of the many roles that sulphur plays in our body, structure and cell-function is one of them. Sulphur is a required element found in most body tissues: hair, nails, skin, blood vessels and organs. This element is also involved in the healing of these tissues damaged by injury.
The rate of cellular renewal from the fastest to the slowest is this:
- Epithelial cells – make up the tissues that cover the outside of the body (skin) and line the digestive, urinary and respiratory tracts.
- Connective tissue – including fat cells and fibrous cartilage which maintains elasticity and flexibility
- Muscle, nerve and bone cells – nerve and bone cells can take up to 7 years to replace themselves.
So What Has MSM Got to Do With Candida?
Plenty…MSM can help heal a host of issues, but for now, let’s focus on its function regarding candida overgrowth.
MSM discourages the overgrowth of candida by competing binding receptor sites at the mucous membrane surface in the intestinal tract.
Starting doses of MSM (which is normally in powder form) of 20-30g should be taken for the first week. Fortunately it is non-toxic and can be taken in higher doses. The second week, one should up the dosage to 50g taken 3 tmes a day. Mind you, don’t take MSM at night time as it increases your energy.
MSM should also be given bearing in mind the, and weight and age of the individual taking it.
It should also be taken alongside time-release Vitamin C and also a great multi-mineral supplement, like Dr Schulze’s Superfood. This should ensure maximum absorbency of the MSM by your body.
Possible side effects: One may experience headaches and fatigue for the first few days due to the detox process. If this happens, just drink more water. Don’t worry – this is just a part of the healing process.
To make MSM Water: Add 1/2 teaspoon of MSM to every 12 oz of water. Mix this in a jug at room temperature so the MSM powder dissolves.

The information that you are sharing here on this issues is pretty amazing and will be a good help to all of your readers especially to those that are suffering from the topic at hand. Your post is very informative and has a ton of awesome information that is really great.
Thank you, I am glad that you find the information here interesting!
Hmmm… you’ve got me thinking now. I had never heard of Candida. I’ve just been scrolling through the internet trying to figure out what is wrong with my sister. Not that I have any idea – or if something is really wrong…. but she does have digestive problems in the past few weeks, and her nails have always been brittle. As far as the depression … it’s something she’s dealt with for a while … and …. she does really enjoy her sugar, haha! Do you think this is an MSM deficiency?! I’m always so bad at these self-diagnosis things … but it’s such a hassle to get a doctor diagnosis sometimes.
Hi Mei, candida is a bacteria that feeds on sugar. When a person has sugar they experience a ‘high’ followed at least 30 minutes later by a ‘low’. If your sister has a white coating on her tongue and her urine is foamy, she definitely has candida.
Personally, my aunt from the States told me to cut down on my sugar intake and I am glad I listened.
The best way to beat it is cut down on sugar drastically and have plenty of protein and salad instead of refined carbs like white rice and bread, etc.
She does not have an MSM deficiency, but supplementing with MSM could help cure the candida. However, it is more important to attack the candida the nutritional way. MSM is not cheap. Flour feeds candida as well and so do sweets. Practically anything with sugar in it, needs to be removed from her diet, while she focuses on eating things like chicken or fish with plenty of veggies.
Hope this helps Mei!
Hey Stella,
Thanks for the info on MSM.
My brother actually suffers from eczema, but it has subsided greatly as he got older.
I think a lot of it has to do with diet. Like you said, high sugar and salt can have a nasty effect on a lot of people.
It is also unfortunate that a lot our food has depleted amounts of sulfur now.
I will definitely let him know about MSM the next time I talk to him. Are there any specific manufacturers that are the best for MSM?
Wilson
Hi Wilson,
MSM is virtually the same across the board. It is better to buy the powder form though. Just follow the instructions and make sure he takes it either in the morning or afternoon with Vitamin C for better absorption.
So glad I stumbled onto your site. I’ve been dealing with stomach issues and nail fungus for a couple of months now.
I’m about 20lbs heavier than I should be, and I think a lot of that has come from high sugar foots. Your post got me to thinking that it could be candida! I’ve been cutting back on sugar and eating more garlic…so far the symptoms seem to be abating (hurray!).
I’m going to take some of the other advice from your articles and see if that helps as well.
Thanks again for the advice!
Hi Kmv,
I’m glad for you too! If we don’t care about our health, who will?
Sugar is definitely the bad guy when it comes to food. I have not used it for years.
If I want something sweet, I choose honey, but do not always put it in my drinks. If you are cleansing from candida, you can’t even have honey as the candida just feeds off it.
I will continue sharing to help people find their way to better health naturally. We owe it to ourselves, don’t you think?
All the best, Stella
I found this article very interesting. I have been taking MSM in supplemental form for a number of years but for a different reason. I take it to lower inflammation and fight off stress. I believe it also helps my immune system and gives me more energy.
I have read a lot about MSM and understand it is used to help treat literally dozens of illnesses, painful symptoms and diseases.
I did not know it was used for candida and eczema. Great article!
Hi Bob, Yes MSM is very useful for so many different ailments.
I am glad you find it useful in giving you more energy and as an immunity booster. We live to learn.
This article is very interesting as you never know what can go inside your body at times. I guess the best way to avoid gut bugs is by eating as healthy as possible but even that is sometimes hard to do. Drinking plenty of water could help out as well.
Deinitely Courtney,
Eating healthy never hurt anyone. As long as you eat balanced meals and lead a healthy lifestyle, you and more of us could lead a very long and happy life.
Stella, Wow! I can’t tell you how many times my I have heard people complain about any combination of those symptoms, and had no idea what was causing it. The information you shared on your website is very important. I never realized that we needed a Sulphur supplement! Personally, I don’t eat many sweets, but my children do. I will make sure my wife knows about this issue and orders some MSM. Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information!
Clay
Hi Clay, I do hope you are not thinking of giving MSM to your children unless they are at least 15 years old…
Just cut down on the sweets if they are and find out more savoury treats for them. I’m glad you enjoyed reading this article though!
This is really interesting to me since I take a lot of natural supplements and have Candida as well. I take a few supplements meant to fight Candida but I did not know MSM could do that as well! My husband has eczema which drives him crazy. I will be showing him your post and hopefully I can convince him to try MSM as well.
I am extremely sensitive to sugar with my Candida. I agree, you need to cut out sugar if you want to control it. I am even sensitive to other sweeteners and especially to milk! Milk is the very worst for me. It instantly triggers the Candida. There are about 12 grams of sugar in a cup of regular milk. Of course these are natural sugars, not added sugar but I was pretty surprised to see it was that high in plain milk! I don’t use regular milk any more for this reason and use unsweetened coconut/almond milk instead.
Thank you for this great information!
Jessica
Hi Jessica, I have various articles on cleareczemanaturally.com that can help your husband’s skin. He needs to take evening primrose oil capsules. At least 5 three times daily. That is for oiling him from within.
Aloe vera gelly – Forever Living brand on his skin to heal it. If dry eczema, mix with shea butter. And dead sea salts in his bath which he should take in the evenings before bed. But to really nail it on the head , bowel cleansing will definitely make a huge difference.
As for candida, starve it by eating chicken and fish. I could go on, but I would just be repeating what I have already written about. Taking MSM is just the surface!
Hi Stella,
Great article! I really enjoyed the reading!
I suffer from candida for years now. It comes and goes and I tried many things, but I have never succeed to get rid of it completely. It still there! Even my doctor doesn’t know.
The only thing that really helped me so far is stopping eating sugar including yeast. Meaning – no bread, no chocolate, no ice cream, no nothing:) And as soon as I eat a small piece of bread or sugar, it immediately weak up.
I’ll try the MSM powder, I hope it will help me this time:)
I drink lemon juice every morning, would it be a good time to take the MSM powder?
Thank you for this useful post!
Hi Daniella,
You need to stop eating candida causing foods for at least 3 months while also taking a good probiotic to repopulate your gut with good flora.
Also, try eating lightly roasted chicken wings instead of sugary snacks. Homemade wings at that!
Thank you for reading it my article.
Do you have any other recommendations other than MSM Powder, 500g, High Quality 99.9% Pure Methyl-Sulfonyl-Methane, Beauty Mineral? The US Amazon store does not have this product you recommended. They do have many other MSM products to choose from. I’m a little overwhelmed with all the options.
Any expertise would be helpful,
Thanks in advance.
You can buy MSM either in capsules or powder form. Whatever brand you buy, MSM is normally the same quality.
I prefer powder myself. It is also best taken with Vitamin C.
It also depends on what you are using it for. It is in joint supplements and also in lotions and creams – normally called MSM lotion. If you need any more help, do let me know.
Another interesting post this time about Candida in our stomach. Never heard of it until now and how if it is not in balance it can negatively affect your health. It is true we on a whole as a society consume way to much sugar and foods with sugar. One problem is the fast food companies put it in nearly all the foods and drinks they sell. In the big grocery stores you find a lot of products that contain sugar.
Unless you have near you a health based grocery store it can be a challenge to buy healthy choices. Also with our fast paced life today people find it easier to buy a meal then to take the time to make one. It used to be people got home earlier and prepared their meal at a decent hour. When you are getting home after working all day at 8pm or 9pm the last thing you want to have to do is cook a meal.
I heard that the new scientific thought process is that the health of the stomach ties directly to the health of each individual’s brain. Food for thought.
Thanks for the great informative information. I will be taking it into consideration in possible personal eating changes.
Hi Jody,
Yes, sugar is definitely the main culprit in the escalation of different diseases. And candida thrives on it!
Sometimes, it is only when our health is in jeopardy that we take it seriously. More’s the pity. We could save ourselves a lot of heartache….
Hi, a friend of mine has been taking this sulphur supplement and she recommended it to me. Both she and I are always eating sugar (and I know we shouldn’t) and that has most likely cause candida overgrowth.
I was surprised to read you recommend the exact same supplement as my friend did. I’ll definitely give MSM a try.
I’m glad you read this then! You have a very good friend Ann and you really should listen to her.
I’m sure she means the world of good for you. Now all I have to do is make sure my links are working! Don’t worry I am working on them!
You’ll be pleased to know that I have been taking sulfur to kill Candida for many years. It’s incredibly effective and very quickly can bring this problem under control. As long as you understand and accept that it does cause a die back when it is working. This can give you a headache and make you a bit tired. I always make sure I have a few non-busy days to rest before taking a dose to kill my Candida. An excellent natural solution. Thanks for the reminder.
Well done Lily, you beat me to it…Most people don’t know about how sulphur cures candida overgrowth.
You are one of the few who do.
The difference in cutting down on the processed sugars made in my life when I made the switch was awesome! I never experienced skin rashes as a result of sugar consumption, but my motivation and mood were horribly unstable until I cut down to only having sugar in my coffee.
Yes, it’s proven that regular sugar consumption gives you mood swings!
Well done for discovering what most of the population don’t know.
